Dancer and choreographer Sylvain Huc, who opened two consecutive editions of CoFestival (in 2024 and 2025) with his outstanding choreographic works New Life (2025) and Subjects (2018), returns to us with the dance workshop Practices of Attention, in which he will share the fundamentals of his dance and choreographic practice with local dancers.

Sylvain Huc’s work is grounded in a rigorous physical approach and an ongoing investigation of movement itself. The moving body lies at the core of his practice, always in relation to the space and environment around it. The workshop Practices of Attention is both a movement-based and choreographic practice, one that takes its own distinctive approach to choreological and compositional principles. “Paying attention transforms how we perceive, move, make decisions and are affected. Through fascia, skeletal and visceral structures, weight and support, we will explore the body’s inner landscapes. Continuities of connective tissue running through and connecting the body, allow us to experience how tensions, forces and movements circulate within a living, three-dimensional network. Working with fascia brings us to the power and radicality of softness. Engagement is not to be confused with will, intensity with tension, or precision with control. Instead, we will give sensations time. Not to do less, but to intervene differently and with delicacy, allowing what mastery might otherwise conceal to emerge. Observing while practising, practising while observing: to feel is also to feel oneself feeling. Movement thus becomes a negotiation between intention and sensation, form and flow, decision and receptiveness.

Through guided practices, improvisations and scores, we will explore collective attention as choreographic material: being affected by what surrounds us and letting the “protagonist” — myself, the other, the group, the space… —circulate. Attention keeps the distribution of positions open. Therefore, every way of practising already contains a way of composing. Cultivating practices of attention means allowing dance to emerge in the making and making its invisible processes visible. These are the forces we will explore throughout the workshop.”
