Jan Rozman: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ screamage (2023)

Wednesday, 27 November at 7:00 p.m.
performance
The Old Power Station
Duration: 70 min.

The reality of the relationship between the digital and the corporeal or even the material, which Jan Rozman deals with in his latest group choreographic work, represents one of the most refreshing examples of local contemporary dance in recent years.

Jan Rozman first appeared at CoFestival in 2019, staging his choreography MEMEMEME (2019) as a pre-festival event. His choreographic work is heavily marked by the concept of »object-oriented ontology,« which rejects the primacy of human existence over the existence of objects, and by a certain choreographic transrealism, in which the accessibility of reality through the change of human perception in the face of virtual and digital domination is different than in the cases of artistic realisms of the past. His creative source is permeated with the question of how to imitate real life when it is acting as a surrealist figment of the imagination.

His fundamental procedural turn stems from the creative opportunity to funnel the sensorial effects of the digital world into the microcosm of a kinetic, dance or even somatic work, and then to reproduce them in new compositional (dis)orders. This comes across as a form of choreographic liberation, but the egalitarianism of his artistic means, with the above mentioned parameters, is being arranged literally beyond anthropocentrism: it seems that the modernist hierarchical logic of arrangement of the human body and the rest of materiality no longer applies.

Or, as the author has stated: »In response to the oculocentric organisation of the world, the hybrid stage production adds materiality to pasty digital images and processes them ¯\_( physically )_/¯. It combines movement, video, the production with objects and sound, translating *through irony* the logic of the Internet into a physical space……………. . The relationship between the body and images spreads open the virtual spaces of intermediacy; /between the organic /imaginary and digital /among memetic trash /between the atmosphere /affect and sensation //at the intersection of experience, apparition, premonition, and fact. Between the past, the manifold presents and – not virtual, but tangible – > future.«
