dance performance of improvisation

Monday, 25. 11. 2019

Kino Šiška, Katedrala Hall at 9pm

The dance fundamentalism of the open work Monday at Nine that is put forward for us by Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and Jurij Konjar, the availability and generosity of their thousands of lean bodies, the production of spatial visibility, inhumanly precise rhythms and the profound capability of improvised dance composing are simply breathtaking. Jaka Šimenc communicates with them through light bodies, Blaž Celarec through sound bodies. Space, time and kinetic relief-like structure are rarely more transparent.

Open work by four local established artists that work in four separate art fields – dance, choreography, lighting design, music – is always titled after the day and hour of each individual performance. In this way, we are informed about the choreographic use of a real moment in time, which is entered by artists with layers of their exceptional experiences and skills. Monday at Nine is a rare example of a mature dance-choregraphic and spatial-auditive skill in the local space. The intelligibility of their actions is sublime. The spatial, temporal and bodily orientations that are provided for us by the artists with their composition skill and exceptional dynamic spectre are without any redundant material, so their artistic matter is accessible for us in the purest of its forms. An outstanding landscape of dance, sonic and spatial bodies that enter into various relations opens up in front of us. The air that creates friction against their individual and common bodies gets a thousand different textures in front of our eyes, due to their movement nakedness also the spectator bodies can become the translators of their dance. In such moments, the spectator feels like our kinetic skins would be rubbing against one another and that one just cannot get enough of it until the end of life. Or, as Rilke would put it: “for here there is no place that does not see you. / You must change your life.”
