dance performance

Wednesday, 27. 11. 2019

Kino Šiška, Katedrala Hall at 8 pm

Exceptional dance virtuoso Samuel Lefeuvre who already performed his short solo work monoLOG (2013) at CoFestival in 2017 is now returning with a multidisciplinary artist and dancer Florencia Demestri with their performance Glitch. Technological mistakes, disturbances, interruptions, slips, unforeseen events that they inhabit in their bodily structures are the central material of Lefeuvre’s and Demestri’s choreographic interest. They speak about the imperfection of systems and enable the visibility of the vulnerability of contemporary human bodies with an astonishing flexibility.

In the choreographic oeuvre of the fascinating dancer from Brussels Samuel Lefeuvre, who is well known for collaborations with The Peeping Tom Collective, Michèle Anne De Mey, Alain Platel, Jérôm Bel and Boris Charmatz, the cinematic, digital and animation technological elements can be read from dance kinetics. Technological disturbances and system failures come to the foreground which equips the body with an image of an android or a replica. There is something affective, dystopian, scary and melancholic in their forms of dance expansion that separates the bodily organism and its software with movement, so we can watch them apart. In the performance Glitch, which premièred in Brussels a month ago, Lefeuvre is collaborating with Argentinian multimedia artist Florencia Demestri. In this work, they use the technological possibilities of different applications to compose a kind of contemporary Frankenstein-like creature, formed of creative anomalies, aesthetic occurrences and sparks of humanity. In this way, they assure the position of truth to the functional negative of the systems.
