Alive Dance Archives

Thursday, 26 November – Sunday, 29 November 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Kino Šiška, Komuna
workshop * The workshop will be held in English.

Free admission. Pre-registration until the end of October.

Over several days, the Alive Dance Archives workshop will bring us together with dance archivists and historians from across Europe to compare our knowledge, historical case studies and archival methods, and to become mentors to one another.

Cofestival, the international contemporary dance festival, together with the Temporary Slovenian Dance Archive and in collaboration with the project Para uma Timeline a Haver (For a Timeline to Be, Associação Parasita, Portugal), is organising a series of working meetings for dance archivists, researchers, curators and practitioners. The workshop will take place from 26 to 29 November 2026 at Kino Šiška, the Centre for Urban Culture, with the aim of creating a space where participants may share knowledge, discuss the challenges of archiving and historicizing dance, compare methodologies related to digitization and material archiving, and present selected research.

Alive Dance Archives are designed as an open working space in which we will delve into comparative histories of contemporary dance, present various aspects and predicaments of material and digital archiving in the field of dance, take a look at different approaches to dance reconstruction through concrete examples, and outline possibilities for further collaboration with our partners. The multi-day event will provide time for in-depth work, for sharing experiences, critical information and comparative perspectives from the field of dance histories, and for collective reflection on the challenges of dance archiving and historicizing.

A detailed workshop program is published on our website.
