dance performance

Saturday 23. 11. 2019

Kino Šiška, Katedrala Hall at 8pm

Choreographer Michiel Vandevelde is a rising star of Flemish contemporary dance. With performance Ends of Worlds he is turning to the past century of contemporary dance (Isadora Duncan, Kurt Jooss, Ana Halprin, Steve Paxton, etc.) to discover political and ideological fragments in the archaeological dance remains, in order to understand what we can actually see in contemporary dance beyond its proverbial ephemerality. Dance work usually embodies more layers of time as it is visible when it is created. Vandevelde is interested precisely in this. Right now, he is one of the most promising names of European contemporary dance.

Residence choreographer of Kaaitheatre in Brussels, curator, publicist and editor Michiel Vandevelde graduated at P.A.R.T.S. with Ends of Worlds, a futurologic dance reconstruction: reading of the dance past from a remote and hypothetical future. We are in the year 0.2300, stage is reconstructed, replicas of homo sapiens dance in this show that is actually a living history performance. In six speculative historical parts that are visited by the time-machine of the Ends of Worlds, dance history is a form of its methodological slip, a failure. A kind of historical fiction.
